BSMU scientist took part in the prestigious international congress on heart failure in the USA

The Annual Scientific Congress of the American Society for the Study of Heart Failure was held in Phoenix, Arizona, USA. Bashkir State Medical University was presented by the head of the department of propaedeutics of internal diseases, doctor of medical sciences, professor Naufal Zagidullin. His speech at the congress is part of the events within the framework of the Decade of Science and Technology: the participation of Russian scientists in major international platforms helps to exchange relevant data and develop joint scientific initiatives.

The annual congress is the only major scientific conference devoted entirely to heart failure. Each session is specifically designed for professionals in this field, offering hands-on knowledge, in-depth coverage of clinical aspects, and meaningful discussions across the treatment spectrum.

This year's event brought together more than 1,500 leading experts from the United States and around the world. The participants focused on topical issues of modern medicine: the treatment of acute and chronic heart failure, heart transplantation, heart amyloidosis, as well as the use of artificial intelligence technologies in cardiology.

From Russia at this congress, the works of only two universities were presented: BSMU of the Ministry of Health of Russia and the First Moscow State Medical University named after I.M. Sechenov.

BSMU professor Naufal Zagidullin made a poster report on the study of subphenotypes of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. This scientific project is supported by a grant from the Russian Science Foundation.

The study "Molecular genetic basis for the development of chronic heart failure with preserved and reduced left ventricular ejection fraction" is carried out at the BSMU Clinic on the basis of cardiology and cardiac surgery departments under the guidance of Professor Naufal Zagidullin. The scientific team is studying features of heart failure with a preserved ejection fraction - a condition in which the contractility of the heart is reduced only slightly, but signs of heart failure persist.

Scientists are investigating the characteristics of functional indicators (primarily according to Echo CG) and serum biomarkers in patients with different subphenotypes - that is, with different degrees of reduced contractility. As a result, certain patterns have been identified that may affect approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of such patients.

A large interdisciplinary team is involved in the project: cardiologists, geneticists, morphologists. The work of such a large team of specialists was made possible thanks to the university's participation in the Priority 2030 strategic academic leadership program.

The relevance of the work can hardly be overestimated: today heart failure remains one of the most acute problems of medicine, associated with high mortality and a significant limitation of patient activity.
