BSMU received a registration certificate for its own medical device for neurorehabilitation

The most important stage of the creation of a high-tech medical device has been completed at the Bashkir State Medical University. The university received a registration certificate from the Federal Service for Surveillance in Healthcare for a medical device "Interactive training table for the active rehabilitation of upper limb function in patients with paralysis and paresis after neuropathy."

Medical scientists of the Bashkir State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Russia, together with specialists from related fields, have gone the full way from developing a concept to obtaining permits for their own medical product, which will later be produced for the needs of medical institutions in the country.

What the simulator can do and for whom it is intended: The development is intended for the active rehabilitation of patients with the consequences of stroke, craniocerebral and spinal injury, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, cerebral palsy and other neurological diseases, accompanied by partial loss of motor function of the hands. Unlike classic strength simulators aimed at strengthening muscles and ligaments, an interactive table developed at the Bashkir State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Russia works to restore neuronal connections in the brain.

Training is built on the principles of neuroplasticity and strict sequence "from simple to complex." The fundamental feature of the simulator is the focus on the active arbitrary movements of the patient, necessary for everyday life. Unlike orthopedic simulators offering monotonous bending/extension, this development trains complex motor skills: reach for an object, calculate the trajectory, select the amplitude and grip force to hold an object of a given weight. In a healthy person, these processes take place unconsciously, but after a neurological injury, the brain has to learn to rebuild lost skills - and this is what the new simulator helps. Unlike analogues, the developed simulator expands the range of trained movements, ensures the variability of their amplitude due to the movement of the panels and provides the patient with feedback. The adaptive system allows you to simplify or complicate tasks depending on the capabilities of the patient. Built-in feedback (sound signals, information on the monitor, scoring) gives the patient an understanding of the correctness of the movements.

The simulator is suitable for 85% of patients who have minimal active movements (from 10 degrees in three joints of the hand). For patients with complete paralysis of the hands, other rehabilitation methods are provided.

The simulator table has a unique engineering solution: built-in color sensors instead of the usual motion sensors. This allows you to control not only the fact, but also the quality of movements. Simplicity for the user is combined with high accuracy control of all motor functions of the hand. And interchangeable items and game scenarios support motivation and support the patient's external focus of attention - more effective than the internal one.

The product has successfully passed all the necessary tests: toxicological, electromagnetic, technical and clinical. The examination of Roszdravnadzor confirmed the quality, efficiency and safety of the product. Currently, work is underway to organize a production site on the basis of the Interuniversity Campus. In the near future, serial production of simulators will begin for sale in hospitals, clinics and rehabilitation departments throughout Russia. As part of post-clinical monitoring, it is planned to systematically collect data on the effectiveness of the simulator.

The results obtained, as well as feedback from doctors and patients, will become the basis for further modernization of the product, expansion of functionality and an increase in the library of training modes.

"Our device has incorporated the most effective modern methods of neurorehabilitation. We are confident that he will become a reliable assistant for exercise therapy instructors. This is a new level of motor rehabilitation in Russia," the developers note.

When developing the device, the leading foreign and domestic methods of restoring motor functions, which have passed multicenter clinical trials and recognized in the international rehabilitation community, are taken as a basis.
