Since June 21, 2026, a delegation of the Bashkir State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Russia, consisting of 19 students of 4-5 courses, has completed a unique summer internship at the Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The trip took place as part of the development of international cooperation between BSMU and leading medical universities in China.
The main goal of the program was the development of advanced medical technologies, the international exchange of clinical experience and the integration of methods of evidence-based Western medicine with traditional Eastern practices. All training and professional communication was conducted exclusively in English, which allowed students to significantly improve their intercultural communication skills.
The clinical practice program covered several key medical areas.
Endocrinology
Students took part in medical rounds, consultations and the analysis of complex clinical cases. Particular attention was paid to the technological equipment of the department: the participants studied in detail the principles of operation of modern insulin pumps, got acquainted with the advanced methods of research of endocrinological patients, as well as with the spectrum of modern drugs used in the PRC. Future doctors attended surgical operations for endocrine pathologies.
"With Chinese doctors, we discussed methods of treating diabetes mellitus, attended endocrinological surgical operations, disassembled research methods in endocrinology - measuring body mass index, electromyography. The training left a lasting impression and will definitely play a role in further training. I feel great confidence in practical skills, there was excellent practice in English and Chinese. I am very grateful to our university for such an opportunity and to the Chinese Medical University for cordial hospitality, training and practical experience!" - Shaikhvaleeva Azalea, student of BSMU.
Neurology
In the neurological department, under the strict control of the head, each student of the Bashkir State Medical University was able to consolidate theoretical knowledge in practice and personally perform a lumbar puncture, having worked out the manual skills and technique of the procedure.
Obstetrics and gynecology
Future specialists attended high-tech operations aimed at preserving women's health, including cesarean sections. Particular attention was paid to a detailed analysis of the course of surgical interventions and innovative surgical techniques.
Oncology
Students got acquainted with advanced international studies, protocols for managing cancer patients and compared approaches to the diagnosis and therapy of socially significant diseases in Russia and China.
Dentistry
During the visit, the participants visited three modern operating rooms, where they observed the implementation of complex surgical interventions - dental implantation, bone grafting and gum grafting. In addition, the students were demonstrated therapeutic manipulations including dental caries treatment, endodontic procedures and tooth extraction in various clinical situations.
Traditional Chinese medicine
A separate and striking part of the program was immersion in traditional Chinese medicine. Under the guidance of leading masters of Chengdu University, BSMU students mastered the theoretical foundations and basic techniques of acupuncture (acupuncture), traditional Tuyn massage and moxotherapy (cauterization).
Cultural program
The host prepared a rich cultural and entertainment program for our students, which helped to deepen the flavor and history of Chengdu. The students visited the famous Center for the Study and Breeding of Giant Pandas, got acquainted with the history of traditional Chinese drinks at the Museum of Winemaking and discovered the amazing sights of the city.
The real triumph of the trip was the participation of the BSMU delegation in the grand Gala concert, which brought together hundreds of foreign students from all over the world. Our guys proudly presented the culture of their homeland, performing the legendary song "Tugan Yak" ("Native Land"). The performance caused an enthusiastic response and became a vivid symbol of friendship between peoples!
The experience gained allowed future doctors to significantly expand their professional horizons, master new methods of interdisciplinary treatment and gain valuable practice in communicating with foreign colleagues and patients. The internship at Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was an important step in strengthening BSMU's international ties and opened new horizons for academic exchange and scientific cooperation.
"In addition to traditional practices, the internship was saturated with clinical best practices. The analysis of medical cases and the study of Chinese methods of patient management gave a powerful incentive to expand professional horizons. Of particular value was the practical aspects of the program: the opportunity to personally practice ultrasound diagnostics, detailed acquaintance with work processes during an excursion to a high-tech laboratory," - Dina, a student of BSMU, an internship participant, shares.
"The experience is invaluable and worth absolutely all the effort. Another country, culture does not scare, but on the contrary fascinate, in the new conditions, training is more efficient, each step is more conscious. The hospital in which the practice itself took place was striking in its scale. We managed to see a lot of interesting and useful things, test them on the very patients. Knowledge of English was very useful when talking with doctors," 5th year student of the pediatric faculty Alina Lisachkina.
