Professor Muharram Bikbov entered the top 2% of the most cited scientists in the world

Professor Mukharram Mukhtaramovich Bikbov is included in the prestigious international list of Stanford-Elsevier World's Top 2% Scientists, uniting the best scientists on the planet in terms of citation. The professor's articles are regularly published in leading world-class journals - Nature, Ophthalmology, American Journal of Ophthalmology, British Journal of Ophthalmology, Acta Ophthalmologica, Eye and others - and contain the results of joint research with foreign colleagues.

Currently, Mukharram Mukhtaramovich Bikbov is the director of the Ufa Eye Research Institute of the Bashkir State Medical University, professor, MD and head of the Department of Ophthalmology and Optical Instrumentation of BSMU.

The Stanford-Elsevier World's Top 2% Scientists rating is formed on the basis of Scopus data using standardized citation indicators, which makes it possible to objectively compare scientists taking into account the specifics of their fields. The list includes names, affiliations (organizations), positions in the general and subject ratings, as well as key metrics, including the number of publications, summary and normalized citation rates, 22 broad scientific areas and 170 narrow sub-disciplines (according to Science-Metrix classification).

The dynamics of the citation of Professor Bikbov's works for 2025-2026 deserves special attention: in this indicator he is second only to one head of the Department of Ophthalmology among German universities - Frank Holz from Bonn.

Thus, one of the results of many years of fundamental and applied research conducted at the Ufa Eye Research Institute of the Bashkir State Medical University under the guidance of Professor M.M. Bikbov created a complete technology for the treatment and rehabilitation of patients with degenerative diseases of the cornea, including both devices and solutions for corneal crosslinking developed at the institute and various protocols for using this technique in the clinic.

Currently, Ufa Eye Research Institute is heading for the development of its own innovative technologies, the development of devices and medicines for ophthalmology, and eye disease surgery technologies. The basic division of the institute is a clinic, represented by a round-the-clock hospital with 310 beds (5 ophthalmological departments, including children's), a day hospital with 80 beds, two adults and children's consultative clinics.
