Employees of Ufa Eye Institute completed a short-term clinical internship at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (New Delhi) at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Center for Ophthalmic Sciences

Employees of Ufa Eye Institute — trainee doctors, scientific residents R.M. Mannanov and D.M. Smakova — from April 13 to 24, 2026 underwent a short-term clinical internship at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (New Delhi) at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Center for Ophthalmic Sciences.

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences is India's leading public health facility focused on providing specialized care to the general public. The ophthalmological center of the institute covers almost the entire spectrum of eye pathology and operates in conditions of high clinical burden: the daily flow of patients reaches 2000-3000 visits.

The internship program included work in two specialized departments: the Department of Corneal and Lens Pathology (Unit 3) and the Department of Vitreoretinal Pathology (Unit 1), including a specialized retinopathy room for prematurity, equipped with a modern RetCam3 imaging system.

During the internship, the main focus was on clinical activities. Participants attended daily rounds, participated in the discussion of clinical cases, observed the progress of surgical interventions and the peculiarities of patient management. Particular attention was paid to the organization of the treatment process, including the model of patient supervision with the participation of residents and senior specialists.

The practical part of the internship included visiting the operating unit equipped with modern equipment, and monitoring the implementation of high-tech ophthalmological interventions, including keratoplasty using navigation systems.

The internship made it possible to get acquainted with the features of providing ophthalmological care in high-load conditions, the patient routing system, as well as modern approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of diseases. The experience gained is of practical interest and can be used in further improving clinical activities.
