All-Russian Ophthalmological Olympiad for medical students was held in Ufa

On the basis of the Department of Ophthalmology of the Bashkir State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Russia, on April 23, 2026, the All-Russian Ophthalmological Olympiad was held for students of 4-6 courses of medical universities in Russia.

At the grand opening of the Olympiad, the participants were greeted by the Deputy Dean of the Pediatric Faculty, Associate Professor of the Department of Pedagogy and Psychology Olesya Gennadievna Afanasyeva and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology, MD Timur Rafaelievich Mukhamadeev. They noted the importance of such events for the professional development of future doctors and wished all teams a successful performance.

This year, the Olympiad brought together teams from six medical universities in Russia - Tyumen, Volgograd, Orenburg, Samara and Ufa. Each team consisted of four 4-6 year students, including the captain, which allowed the participants to show both individual abilities and teamwork skills.

The competition program was rich and diverse. Participants passed several stages of testing: a video business card competition, theoretical blocks, including the collection of ophthalmological syndrome, a historical question, making diagnoses, a pharmacological blitz, issuing a prescription for glasses and decoding ophthalmological abbreviations and abbreviations. Of particular interest were practical tasks — X-ray localization of a foreign body according to Komberg-Baltin and a microsurgical competition, which allowed students to demonstrate their mastery of real clinical methods.

According to the results of a tense struggle, the first place was taken by the Pink Reflex team from Tyumen. The second place was shared by the teams "Insight" from Ufa and "Vision and Point" from Volgograd. The third place went to three teams at once: "Soul Seekers" from Orenburg, "Look into the Future" from Samara and "Laser blasters" from Ufa.

The award ceremony was held in the Digital Hall in the 3rd building of the Bashkir State Medical University. Acting addressed the participants with a welcoming speech. Vice-Rector for Scientific and International Activities, Ph.D., Associate Professor Ruslan Radikovich Ischemgulov. He spoke about the achievements of the Bashkir State Medical University in the scientific field and personally presented awards to the winners. All participants in the Olympiad received valuable gifts and souvenirs.

The event ended with a sightseeing tour of Ufa, which allowed guests from other cities to get acquainted with the sights of the capital of Bashkortostan and left warm impressions for all participants.

The Olympiad is held in order to increase the interest of students in ophthalmology as one of the most important medical specialties, as well as to identify and support talented young specialists. The event is aimed at developing the professional competencies of future doctors, exchanging experience between students from different regions of the country and strengthening interuniversity cooperation in the field of medical education.
