A student of the dental faculty of the Bashkir State Medical University of the Ministry of Health of Russia from Egypt Fares Mohamed Shehata Rageb became a star of social networks. He published a video essay in which he spoke about five years of life and study in Russia. The Egyptian shared the difficulties of adapting to Russian realities and overcoming barriers. The video was watched by hundreds of thousands of people, the post received over 20,000 likes, and popular Bashkir bloggers responded to Fares' video work in the comments with praise.
Fares gave an interview to the Ufa news website, in which he spoke about his studies and life in Bashkortostan. We decided to talk with the future dentist in more detail about his academic path at the BSMU, the choice of profession and plans for the future.
Why did you decide to become a dentist?
Since I was a kid, I loved doing beautiful things, by the way, I loved drawing. In addition, everyone around me always respected doctors, and this greatly influenced my choice. And when I got older, I realized that dentistry just combines two things that are close to me - medicine and the creation of beauty.
How does studying at BSMU help you develop your professional qualities?
Of course, the university is a very important place. During my studies, there were many teachers who helped me better understand and love certain areas in dentistry. One of our teachers took us to a clinic where we learned dental manipulation under her supervision. Since then, I've grown to love therapeutic dentistry.
By combining work in a clinic and study, have you become more understanding of your profession?
Yes, theoretical study is important, but, in my opinion, it is much better when you can see everything in practice, and try what you study in theory yourself.
What do you like most about BSMU?
I really enjoyed talking to people of different nationalities. It helped me understand other cultures better and look at a lot of things more broadly.
How did you manage to master the Russian language so well in 5 years? What are you paying attention to now that your level is already high enough?
The practice of the language is mandatory, so my main advice to those who learn the language: not to be afraid and more often find themselves in different situations, to communicate more with people. Now I still continue to develop my Russian, especially in the professional field, because the spoken language and the medical language are very different.
In your opinion, is there a big difference between Russian and Egyptian culture? And will representatives of these two cultures understand each other?
Of course, there are differences between cultures. But I can confidently say that there are also many similarities between them. For example, Russian and Egyptian housewives always have a bag of bags in their kitchens.
How did you make such a beautiful video? How long did it take to work on it? And did you learn this somewhere?
I did not take courses in editing and video filming, I did not specifically study this anywhere. But I develop visual observation, watch how other people shoot. I made the video for two months.
"Fares is a very capable student, it can be seen that he is interested in the Russian language and Russian culture, because his knowledge is much wider and richer than what we study during classes. I was only a teacher in his group for one semester, but even in this short time he managed to demonstrate his talents. At our conference, Fares did a study on the analysis of translations of Egyptian films from Arabic into Russian, where he was able to explain the inexplicable to us", Kseniya Chusova, senior lecturer at the Department of Russian Language, Linguistics and International Communication says.
Please note that for Ufa1 Fares prepared the answers for the interview in written form, the authors retained his spelling and punctuation. Rate his knowledge of Russian language: https://ufa1.ru/text/world/2026/01/18/76213985/
