From November 7 to 9, 2025, the 5th Congress of the Asia-Pacific Society of Ophthalmic Imaging (APOIS) was held in Beijing (China), which was held jointly with the Tsinghua International Ophthalmic Symposium (TIES). The delegation of the Ufa Eye Research Institute took an active part in the work of this authoritative forum. The theme of this year's congress - "Transforming ophthalmic care with artificial intelligence and imaging" - reflects the rapid progress and transformative potential of artificial intelligence and advanced imaging technologies in ophthalmology. The program included lectures, group discussions, master classes and poster presentations.
The event was a major event in ophthalmic imaging and artificial intelligence and brought together leading experts, clinicians, researchers and innovators from around the world to discuss cutting-edge advances in eye imaging, AI-based diagnostics and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Representatives of the delegation of the Ufa Eye Research Institute, headed by the director, Professor M.M. Bikbov not only got acquainted with the latest world achievements, but also presented the results of their own scientific research. As a part of the congress, a report was presented by the head of the department of cornea and lens surgery, MD E.L. Usubov on the topic: "Efficacy and safety of phacoemulsification cataract with prophylactic injection of Faricimab in patients with diabetic retinopathy" (M.M. Bikbov, E.L. Usubov, G.Z. Israfilova). The report aroused keen interest among an international audience and served as an occasion for productive professional discussions with colleagues from the countries of the Asia-Pacific region. And also a poster presentation by the head of the department of corneal and lens surgery, MD E.L. Usubov on the topic: "Amnioplasty for the treatment of corneal ulcers".
Employees of the Ufa Eye Research Institute also participated in the meeting of the RetFound Global Consortium, whose goal is to develop fundamental AI models in ophthalmology using extensive and diverse international data.
