Harshita Bhatt is a second-year student at the Faculty of Medicine of the Bashkir State Medical University, among 30 students from India she undergoes practical training at the Republican Gerontological Center "Imenlek" in Ufa.
- Once a week we come here and help the medical staff of the center: we measure the pressure of the elderly, help in the transportation of bedridden wards, care for patients, help them feed and bathe, and prepare dressings, - says Harshita.
According to her classmate Daksh Galgad, the language barrier makes itself felt a little, but this experience is important and useful.
On the basis of the Imenlek center, a branch of the Department of Nursing and Palliative Care of the Bashkir State Medical University has been operating since 2022, when a cooperation agreement was signed between the university and the institution. More than 600 junior students of the medical university study here every year.
Lilia Shuvaeva, Associate Professor of the Department of Nursing and Palliative Care, Bashkir State Medical University, notes that working with patients of a gerontological profile has its own characteristics:
- It is very important for future doctors to learn to show mercy and kindness to people. For students, such a training format is a great contribution to their education, they are in contact with patients from the first year, which is not available in many countries. Plus, communication qualities are worked out, this is extremely important when collecting a history, especially in patients with a palliative profile, because contact with it is more difficult.
