For the first time in the Republic, the BSMU clinic performed intracorporeal implantation of an artificial ventricle of the heart to a patient with severe heart failure.
The operation was performed under the guidance of the best cardiac surgeons in Russia and Turkey:
Gennadii Khubulava - Chief Cardiovascular Surgeon of the North-Western District, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Umit Kervan is a cardiovascular surgeon at the University of Health Sciences, Head of the Department of Heart Failure of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at Ankara City Hospital, Professor.
In total, the multidisciplinary team included more than 20 people: cardiovascular surgeons and cardiologists, anesthesiologists, resuscitators and perfusiologists, ECMO specialists, ultrasound and functional diagnostics doctors, operating nurses and anesthesiologists of the BSMU Clinic.
Principle of operation: the ventricular pump is arranged according to the principle of a centrifuge and is powered by a system of magnets. It takes the blood, bypasses the heart and delivers it to the aorta. This mechanism reduces the risk of blood clots. Patients with an artificial ventricle lead a normal life, the main thing is to charge the device in time (the charge lasts for 17 hours).
All the subtleties and nuances of operations could be observed with their own eyes, thanks to the broadcast from the operating room, in real time.
