International students took part in a master-class on experimental medicine

Within the framework of the strategic academic leadership program "Priority 2030" and in order to organize effective leisure time during summer holidays on July 16-23, a series of master classes "Experimental workshop" was held on the basis of the Department of Pharmacology with a course of clinical pharmacology under the guidance of Professor A.V. Samorodov. Students were introduced to the basic principles of GLP, the rules of work in laboratories and humane treatment of experimental laboratory animals, alternative to animal models experimental systems. International students took part in practical classes on working out the technique of registering blood pressure, taking blood samples, the technique of administration of the studied agents and drugs. Also, during the master-classes, the students were mastering practical skills of intraoperative monitoring of laboratory animals and necropsy, modeling of thrombosis of the inferior vena cava, nephrectomy and liver resection. In the second part of the master-classes, students took direct part in in-vitro experiments to assess the effect of potential drug candidates on the hemostasis system and cardioprotective activity via perfusion of an isolated heart using Langendorff technique. Several visual aids and samples (equipment, consumables, video demonstrations) were demonstrated, including for conducting morphological studies in a digital morphological classroom. We hope that holding these master classes will contribute to increasing the popularity of a researcher's career and interest in fundamental science.
