International online conference “The Role of Nutritional Support at Rehabilitation”

Today, on August 12, 2020, according to the work plans of the scientific and educational centers "Nutritional therapy" and "Psychology, pedagogy, neurology, neurorehabilitation" of BSMU successfully held the international online conference The Role of Nutritional Support at Rehabilitation. The chairmen of the conference were Zilola Mavlyanova, head of the Medical Rehabilitation department of Samarkand State Medical Institute (SamGMI), and Elza Akhmadeeva, Professor of the Hospital Pediatrics department of BSMU. The relevance of nutrition issues for patients from newborns to the elderly in various clinical conditions was emphasized.

Rais Gizatullin, associate Professor of BSMU, shared the data of modern literature and his own research conducted at the Anesthesiology and Resuscitation department with the Course of IAPE, BSMU (head of the Department is Prof. Ildar Lutfarakhmanov), concerning metabolic dysfunction and methods of its correction in infants with sepsis. Leila Akhmadeeva, Professor of the Neurology department of BSMU (head of the Department is MD Mansur Kutlubayev) gave the lecture with a study case, drawing the attention of participants from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Russia to the importance of multidisciplinary rehabilitation of stroke patients and the role of nutritional support, teaching them to use the Russian and international scales for quantifying dysphagia and malnutrition. The speakers demonstrated the data of their own research published in the Russian scientific journals. Violations of swallowing today represent a large and poorly developed problem, which stands out in the world as a separate science-deglutology. Addressing issues of malnutrition and prevention of aspiration complications improve the outcomes of patients after acute disorders of cerebral circulation.

Participants of various specialties during the online conference had a lively discussion, raising important issues and making plans for further meetings and inter-University cooperation under the patronage of Valentin Pavlov, BSMU rector, and Zhasur Rizayev, SamGMI rector.

More than 100 connections were registered from various clinics and universities in Russia and CIS countries, including residents, postgraduates, students and practitioners. We are very grateful to Professor Valery Satayev (BSMU) and Shukhrat Yusupov (SamGMI) for initiating friendship between our universities, for constant support and expansion of contacts, and to Department for international activities of BSMU for regular assistance in conducting international events and academic mobility programs.
