BSMU volunteers-medicos took part in the online meeting with Radiy Khabirov, Head of the Republic of Bashkortostan

On May 20, Radiy Khabirov, Head of Bashkortostan, held the online meeting with volunteers of the Republic. Leaders of the volunteer movement, entrepreneurs, athletes, and celebrities shared their experience of helping people during the new coronavirus pandemic.

Bashkir State Medical University was represented at the meeting by Laysan Khazyrova, head of the regional Department of Medical Volunteers, student of the faculty of General Medicine, and Aigul Nurieva, resident of the Department of Neurology at the University.

The headquarters of volunteers-medicos at Bashkir State Medical University for the fight against COVID-19 coronavirus infection was opened on March 21, 2020. During their work, the volunteers helped more than 3000 senior citizens of Ufa, and on the Victory Day, May 9, they congratulated more than 1000 veterans of the Great Patriotic war. The headquarters employ more than 600 volunteers from among the BSMU students.

Radiy Khabirov noted the great role of volunteers in the life of the Republic and called the current situation as a real test of strength.

– The great work that you have done is invaluable, – said the Head of the region. – You have taken on the most difficult task - to support those who need it. Almost 200 thousand people in the Republic have received assistance from you.

Head of the Republic of Bashkortostan instructed to create a joint volunteer center in Ufa.

– We will find a separate building, under the roof of which we will gather all the volunteers: Lisa Alert, Green patrol, student groups, other organizations, – said Radiy Khabirov. – Let it be the first outcome of our meeting.

Volunteers who assist the elderly, those who are self-isolated or find themselves in a difficult life situation, note that the number of requests and applications is steadily growing. In this regard, they asked to allocate additional food packages for those in need. Head of the Republic instructed to prepare 10 thousand more of such sets.

– If possible, they should consist of Bashkir products – they are of higher quality and at the same time affordable, - said Radiy Khabirov. – This project has really helped many people who were left without means of livelihood.

Head of the Republic remarked that he had made a decision to insure the life and health of volunteers. Deputies of the State Assembly – Kurultai of the Republic of Bashkortostan, will soon consider the corresponding bill.

- We should strengthen Volunteer movements on the part of structure, organization and legacy, – said the Head of Bashkortostan. – We have to think over the guarantees for volunteers. We already have insurance organizations ready to support this initiative. We will find the funds.

Speaking about the difficult work of volunteers-medicos and the entire medical community, Radiy Khabirov announced the initiative to create an Alley of Doctors in Ufa.

– We will dedicate it to all those who are at the forefront of the fight against coronavirus, – said the head of the region. – We are looking for a good place that would be in plain sight to remind people of the feat of medics who are fighting an unprecedented threat.

During the discussion, the participants of the meeting proposed to hold a large forum of volunteers of the Republic. Radiy Khabirov supported that idea, noting that such an event should become an annual event and gather volunteers not only from Bashkortostan, but also from other regions and countries.

Another initiative of the activists is the establishment of a special badge "Volunteer of Bashkortostan". Radiy Khabirov instructed to develop an appropriate provision, emphasizing that it is also necessary to provide a reward for those volunteers who actively worked during the pandemic.

– I look at the volunteers as a powerful force that solves the most important state task, - said Radiy Khabirov, concluding the meeting. - Thank you for this conversation! The main thing is to take care of yourself. We all have a bright and beautiful future ahead of us. And the last but not the least due to the fact that we have such citizens like you.
