Two Bashkir universities – USATU and BSMU - will train doctors of the future together
Ufa State Aviation University and Bashkir State Medical University plan in cooperation to train specialists in the field of biomedical engineering and technology, who will understand both Medicine and exact technical disciplines, such as Computer Science or Mathematics. Such professionals will be in demand in the market and will be able to meet the challenges in the healthcare sector.
The Department of Biomedical Engineering of BSMU–UGATU will be organized to train future doctors. It is planned to train students who already have basic medical education, and prepare students for new profiles of USATU. The concept of the Department is already in place, and curricula and the system for attracting leading scientists to teach cutting-edge subjects are being developed. The training will involve laboratories and training bases of two universities. In the future there is the opportunity to study in English.
USATU and BSMU have been cooperating for more than 25 years. In 1996 the Department of Information and Measurement Technology of USATU opened two new specialties – "Biotechnical and medical devices and systems" and "Engineering in medical and biological practice", supported be BSMU. Within a few years, the University has become one of the leading universities in the field of Biomedicine. In 2019, the dental office from BSMU was opened in USATU. Since April of this year, specialists have started working on predicting the spread of coronavirus in Russia and several regions. The universities also cooperate in the development of materials for various prosthetics, an atlas of tomographic images, a virtual simulator for practicing surgical skills, and predictive models for assessing the condition of post-stroke patients during rehabilitation.
