Bashkortostan is one of the first regions to prepare plasma for COVID-19 treatment

Bashkir State Medical University in association with the Republican Blood Transfusion Station has started working on creating the database of COVID-19 reconvalescent donors who already had a new coronavirus infection. The first immune plasma, pathogen-induced by amotosalene and ultraviolet A, was prepared from the COVID-19 reconvalescent donor.

While a coronavirus vaccine is being under development, convalescent plasma transfusion is considered as an effective alternative for the treatment of severe patients with a coronavirus infection.

In Russia, the plasma of patients who have undergone coronavirus was first used only a few weeks ago at the N. I. Sklifosovsky Research Institute of Emergency Medicine, The O. K. Gavrilov Blood Center, the I. V. Davydovsky City Clinical Hospital and the Moscow Clinical Hospital №52. The Republic of Bashkortostan was one of the first regions of the Russian Federation to receive plasma from the COVID-19 reconvalescent donor.

A mobile blood procurement complex has been installed at BSMU Clinic.
