Healthcare Minister Veronika Skvortsova was elected as a co-chair of the Independent Commission on noninfectious diseases of the World Health Organization

The Minister of Healthcare of the Russian Federation, Veronika Skvortsova, was elected as a co-chair of the Independent Commission on noninfectious diseases of the World Health Organization. The General Director of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros, founded this Commission in October 2017.

The President of Uruguay, Tabar Vázquez, the President of Sri Lanka, Maitripala Sirisena, the President of Finland, Sauli Niinisto, and the former Federal Minister of Pakistan, Sania Nishtar, were also elected as co-chairs of the Commission.

The aim of the Commission is to prepare for the high-level meeting on noninfectious diseases at the UN General Assembly.

It should be reminded that the Russian Federation is among the world leaders on the effectiveness of measures for the prevention and control of noninfectious diseases. The country has a modern mass health screenings to prevent the development of diseases at early stages.

Thanks to the measures taken in Russia there is a historical increase in the life expectancy of the population, which in 2012 increased by 2.44 years to 72.68 years (70.24 years in 2012).

The mortality rate for the 12 months of 2017 in comparison with 2012 decreased by 6.8% and amounted to 12.4 cases per 1000 population (in 2012 it was 13.3).

Infant mortality decreased by 36% from 8.6 (in 2012) to 5.5 per 1000 live births according to the results of 12 months of 2017 year.

Maternal mortality decreased by 37% from 11.5 (in 2012) to 7.3 per 100,000 live births, according to 12 months of 2017 year.

By 20.6 % reduction in mortality from diseases of the circulatory system, from 737,1 to 584,7 per 100 thousand population.

The mortality rate of the working-age population in January - June 2017 decreased by 17% comparing with 2012 and amounted to 480.6 per 100 thousand population (2012-575.7 per 100 thousand population).
